White Dudes Can’t Rap and Cash Storm
to Screen at Oaks Cinema

Local Directors Hurley McNare and Dan Lantz
Bring Films Back Home

King of Prussia, PA September 4, 2024 – Two local filmmakers are encouraging folks to overcome their paraskavedekatriaphobia and step out on Friday the 13th to the Oaks Cinema to experience a night of laughter at the movie theater. King of Prussia-based director Hurley McNare’ slapstick comedy, White Dudes Can’t Rap, will hold its Philly premiere at Oaks Cinema at 7:00 PM and Dan Lantz’ Cash Storm hits the screen at 6:30 PM.

McNare describes the film as ‘injecting the slapstick hijinks of Naked Gun into the 1990s Philly hip hop scene.” The director continued “With a missing bass player and his band being central to the plot, the music became another critical character that propelled the story. To ensure the music’s authenticity, we hired Philly rap legend MC Breeze, who was a hip hop pioneer in the 90s.” Breeze toured the world while performing on MC Hammer’s label and produced the music for Rocky V. White Dudes represents McNare’s first feature film as a writer, producer and director.

In this fish-out-of-water tale, KO, a pale faced private eye deadpanned perfectly by John Lumia (Ladder 49), is seduced by femme fatale Felina Touche´, played by Shawn Michelle Cosby (Trophy Wife). KO’s journey takes him into the unwelcoming confines of a North Philadelphia hip hop club in search of Phoenix (Evil Jared) a missing bass player. Along the way, our wily flatfoot is aided by club owner Fleet Walker, adroitly played by John Canada Terrell (The Five Heartbeats). Walker administers what is arguably the greatest Heimlech Maneuver in cinema history. And veteran actor Clifton Powell (Ray) in the role of Chef Da’Ron, delivers a film-stealing performance that will rival his iconic character Pinky in Friday for notoriety.

With Cash Storm, Lantz has completed his eighth feature film. When bank robbers crash their getaway car in the path of a tornado, all the money gets sucked into a funnel cloud. Two scientists rescue the robbers, along with a chatty influencer, and they embark on a comical odyssey. Lantz commented ‘It’s great that Oaks Cinema can offer two local filmmakers the chance to share their films on the big screen. This evening is a demonstration of what a vibrant and growing filmmaking community Philadelphia has to offer to the true cinephile.”

Cash Storm will run through Sunday. It is being distributed by Breaking Glass Picture. Shot in 35mm, White Dudes Can’t Rap recently screened at the Hip Hop Film Festival at The Apollo in New York City. The movie also won the Best Comedy Feature Film Award at the 2024 Springfield Independent Film Festival. The film begins streaming on Amazon on September 27th. McNare and Lantz are also co-producing the popular YouTube comedy series, Pablo and Hurley.
